Kathya is a Paralegal / Intake Specialist at Santos Lloyd Law firm. Kathya is a licensed Brazilian attorney, with a masters of law degree - LLM (U of M Law School) as well as a masters degree in Social Sciences/ Anthropology (UNESP - Brazil).  
Kathya was a Fulbright Humphrey Fellow in International Human Rights at the University of Minnesota Law School. 
She is fluent in Portuguese, English, and proficient in French and Spanish.
In Brazil, Kathya was a defense attorney for a State Government Foundation providing legal assistance to inmates in maximum-security prisons, handling more than a thousand cases per year in state, appellate and supreme courts. At the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), in The Hague, she worked for the Trial Chamber in the Ratko Mladić case, who was convicted of genocide and crimes against humanity. She also served as legal counsel for the Latin American operations of a billion-dollar publicly traded global software company based in the US.
Kathya has been honored with such awards as the Sullivan Ballou Award for heartfelt commitment to Human Rights, a Paul Harris Fellow and a Paul Harris Safire from Rotary International. She currently is the president of the Citizens for Global Solutions Minnesota, a human rights-focused non-profit organization, and co-founder of the Brazilian Lawyers Association. Kathya loves to play the piano and dance the Argentine tango.
