B-1/B-2 Visa for Tourists and Business

Generally, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa which are a nonimmigrant visa for a temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence. 
A nonimmigrant visa is for persons who want to enter the United States temporarily for business (visa category B-1), for tourism (visa category B-2), or for a combination of both purposes (B-1/B-2). 

Qualification 

             People that are interested in tourism, vacation (holiday), visit with friend or relatives, medical treatment, participation in social events, participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events (if not being paid for participating) and enrollment in a short course of study qualifies for the visa B-2. Spouses and children under the ages of 21 can accompany the principal Visa holder under the B-2 Visa.

            You may qualify for a B-1 visa if you will be participating in business activities of a commercial or professional nature or for domestic work in the United States such as : 

  • Consulting with business associates 
  • Traveling for a scientific, educational, professional or business convention, or a conference on specific dates 
  • Settling an estate 
  • Negotiating a contract 
  • Participating in short-term training 
  • Deadheading
  • Domestic work performances: child care, household tasks, and/or upkeep of a home or surrounding yard on a regular basis in return for wages or other benefits.
